BGCH

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii's Youth of the Year Luncheon. It was an amazing afternoon honoring these fine young boys and girls of Hawaii. Inspiring stories and lots of aloha in that room. No scared 'em, go get 'em.

Who Can Get Busy Like This Man?

Formed and formless, shaped and shapeless, fitted and ill-fitted––do I love it or hate it? I keep going back to Marc Jacobs F/W 08 and just don't know what to think. But I really am enjoying the not-so-prettiness about it, the lack-of-color palette and the overall nomadic-Bedouin thing, especially that headband. Check out all the headgear.

Follow The Leader

Just thinking about Rakim. (And Eric B. too, I guess.) Of course, Paid In Full is classic. But I've always just loved the Follow The Leader album cover. It's one of my favorite album covers of all time. And Rakim is one of my favorite MCs ever. And Ra over a Premier beat? Dreamy. The R is so hot, I just can't stand it. M.O.P, Premier, Busta, Special K and Teddy Tedd make appearances in the video. P.S. Check out the camo coveralls that the girl is wearing. Camo coveralls are dope!

Straight Outta Nagoya

TENMUSU. Special-select-grade rice from Japan and fried shrimps battered in magic and sauced up are wrapped with a strip of nori and put together into a-little-bit-bigger-than-bite-size rice balls. On the side, there is the kyarabuki (pickled coltsfoot) garnish. I always want to ask for more garnish, but it's like a factory back there making the Tenmusu. And, I don't speak Japanese. Tenmusu comes to Shirokiya a few times a year, and I pretty much want to eat it every single day. Last day is April 27; be prepared to wait in a line during lunchtime. Man, I love those guys that make the Tenmusu!

Diesel 10 (Hi Ian!)

This new bag from Diesel is so perfect, I just might make up a dance for it. Pebble-dyed soft grey leather, sturdy construction, lots of pockets, and a luggage-style look. Each bag is one-of-a-kind as the dye job is different on each one. And, my MacBook fits in it. Ara knew I was going to buy it when we first saw it. I can't imagine my life without this bag now. It was destiny.

It Was Written

I was looking through my tote bag and found my fortune from a Kincaid's lunch this past week. The lunch was good: Clam Chowdah and Meatloaf Sandwich. But what does this mean?!!? I'm kind of scurred. And who the f*ck is Don Ward?

Manny.

I love baseball. Red Sox vs. Yankees. Manny at the plate, runners on base. I'm dreaming of sitting in the bleachers at Fenway, keeping score in my scorebook, and eating fried dough and clam chowder. Go Sox!

Can't Clutch This

I saw Lust, Caution back in October–an utterly gorgeous and mesmerizing film directed by Ang Lee. Sex, spies, love, secrets, betrayal, and seduction set in 1940's Shanghai. To this day, I'm moved by this film. And to this day, I also think of the gorgeous clutch bag that actress Tang Wei carried in the film. White perforated leather, large-sized. Ask Molly, I mention this bag every other week. It's become my lust. One day, I will find it.

Steaks Is High

Finally. It took us 5 months to eat at Beachhouse at the Moana Surfider. Described as a steakhouse/seafood grill, Beachhouse lived up to our expectations. Comfortable atmosphere (indoor and outdoor seating), simple-yet-sophisticated menu, local flavors and ingredients, and French Onion Soup (made with Maui onions). I love French Onion Soup. Look at that delicious layer of cheesy wonderfulness. Oh yeah, and then there was the 20 oz. Bone-In Ribeye with Creamed Spinach and Whipped Parmesan Potatoes. Whoa.

Ninjas On the Run Eating

I love on-the-go meals. PROBAR makes my new favorite bars–totally organic and 100% vegan. Oh, lunch? Oh yeah. Oh yummy! Get 'em at Umeke Market. P.S. I am not a vegan.

Let's Get Physical

Molly and I tried out a new workout today at Shobukan. MMA style. Thanks Bas Rutten for yelling at us (from the CD player)! Punching, squats, jumps, abs, push ups, and mountain climbers–over and over and over and over and over again. Who knew that having a Dutch guy constantly yelling at you would be such a good experience. Until the next time, El Guapo! And by the way, Shobukan is awesome. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Shobukan Judo Club. Recognize.

Hey....Ho....Lei....Low!

Leilow has moved out of the back of Kicks and now has its own front door...right next to Kicks on Makaloa. Leilow tees and hats, Rogue Status, Original Fake, Supreme, Haze, and Headporter, plus all the collaborations your little heart desires. Add to the mix vintage Gucci bags, vintage sunglasses, Jules' record collection and Isaac Hayes' Black Moses album unfolded and framed on the wall. Quite possibly the coolest store ever.
